Our team has been hard at work during the winter months. In January part of our team traveled to South America for a CD3 demonstration, marking our first international trip. Domestically, we have certified over 20 agencies, since New Years Day, in our AMI and Instructor Training.

Both of our certification courses are undergoing changes. Starting this month, our Instructor Training Certification will now have a required online portion that agencies will need to complete on their own time before the in-person portion takes place. The online portion will take approximately 2 hours to complete. The in-person portion will take 4 hours to complete. There will be a brief review of the online course, and then the class will be participating in hands-on defensive tactic training. The hands-on portion will still require teach-backs and a passing quiz grade to earn the certificate.

For our Agency Master Instructor course, we have reduced the number of lessons in the curriculum, however most of the content has been retained. Some lessons have been combined or modified to include elements from of the lessons that were cut. Few lessons or modules were cut completely; the course has retained its purpose of preparing officers to safely restrain combative individuals and provide them with tactics to defend themselves. The remaining 10 lessons are listed below:

  1. Movement/Two Hand Control + The wrap and unwrap drill
  2. Arm Control
  3. Protection from Strikes
  4. Moving to Body Control
  5. Folding
  6. Head Control
  7. Partners and Cuffing
  8. Extraction from Seated Positions
  9. Weapons Transitioning from the Wrap
  10. Teach Back portion

We would like to congratulate all our newly certified Agency Master Instructors and Instructor Trainers. We look forward to these partnerships and training sessions for the years to come. Below we have featured a few photos from recent trainings.

Training Tip

Trigger Pull Experiment Agency Master Instructor Course

In an experiment conducted to assess the impact of GLOVE stimulation on three arm regions during the handling of a pistol or handgun (a functional pistol/handgun trainer was used in the video), the following areas were targeted in sequence:

1. Forearm

2. Elbow

3. Wrist/Hand

The video demonstrates the trigger being pulled by the deputy, with varying degrees of control over the pistol/handgun depending on the stimulated area. The findings revealed the following:

- Forearm stimulation resulted in the trigger being pulled and the deputy maintaining moderate control of the pistol/handgun.

- Elbow stimulation led to the trigger being pulled, but the deputy exhibited reduced control over the pistol/handgun due to body movement.

- Wrist/hand stimulation resulted in the trigger not being pulled, and the deputy dropped the pistol/handgun.

It is important to note that this experiment does not imply that every individual will respond identically to the deputy. This experiment was not conducted in a dynamic fashion. Furthermore, it should not be assumed that any specific point of stimulation on an individual’s body will result in the loss of the ability to pull a trigger or even drop the weapon.

Modern Force Tactics for Safer Policing

The Compliant Technologies CD3 G.L.O.V.E. was mentioned in a recent article put out by Police Chief Magazine, the official publication of the International Association of Chiefs of Police. The article's main focus is providing tactics for de-escalation and suggestions for updating use of force training and policies. Adopting noninvasive restraint-and-control technologies provides agencies with more options that are less-lethal and have smaller margins for medical errors when handling combative subjects.

The G.L.O.V.E. is categorized as an Electronic Control Device. ECDs serve as a highly effective “intermediate force” option—between empty-hand tactics and deadly force—utilizing incapacitation or pain compliance through electrical impulses. To see policy recommendations, other use of force tactics, and more about modern policing strategies, read the full article, linked below.

Police Officer Assault Averages 2015-2025

Data from the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund revealed the averages for officer deaths, assaults, and assaults with injuries over the last 10 years. Established in 1984, the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to honoring the fallen, telling the story of American law enforcement, and making it safer for those who serve.

Since 2015, the average number of officer deaths per year is 251. The most common cause for officer deaths in the line of duty was COVID-19 or Job-Related Illnesses. The second leading cause was being shot and the third was automobile crashes. The average number of assaults per year over the last 10 years is 60,026, and the average number of assaults with injuries over the last years is 17,644.

We believe that with the proper training and the right tools we can see a reduction in these averages over the next 10 years. Our mission is a company to provide solutions to today's toughest challenges. Our CD3 Technology tools and our defensive tactic training courses were designed to help officers reduce the time it takes to subdue a combative subject. Reducing the time spent struggling drastically reduces the chances for injuries. The odds of officer injuries increase by 36% when subject displays active resistance & higher. The odds increase by 45%, if struggle duration over 1 minute.

We know a thing or two about gloves

As we read above, job related illnesses have been hard on officers, even before the COVID-19 pandemic. Whether it's correctional facilities or public patrols, officers encounter endless amounts of germs, pathogens, and diseases. Besides illnesses, officers are exposed to blood, bodily fluids, and harmful chemicals as well. Not all gloves are created equal. The nitrile gloves sold at local retailers are not produced or distributed with the same standards as Eagle Protect. Their durability reduces waste, and improves cost efficiency. When every local, state, and federal agency is fighting for funds and operating costs, no one should have to sacrifice personal protection to save a few dollars up front.
